My Compelling Story

S. Shankar is a professional singer based out of the IT capital of India, Bangalore. He was a part of various musical programmes on AIR and Doordarshan in the year 1998 and 2007. Shankar also participated is the Radio Sangeetha Sammelan in 1992 and 2004 (Mumbai) and 2011 (Kolkata). He is the winner of an AIR competition held in 1973, where he bagged the Best Musician award by the Bangalore Gayana Samaj, and the Best Young Musician award by The Music Academy, Chennai. He has performed all over India and abroad. S. Shankar has also administered music workshops at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in London. He has performed various jugalbandi concerts with Hindustani vocalists. He is gifted with a strong voice, and his rendering of ragas is mellifluous and enthralling. His repertoire consists of the compositions of the Trinity, Swathi Thirunal, Jayachamarajendra Wodeyer, Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer, Mysore Vasudevachar, Mayuram Vishwanatha Sastry, Papanasam Sivan, DV Gundappa, Padmacharan, and Haidasas. Besides composing kritis and thillanas, he has written columns for music and musicians in several dailies and souvenirs. He has also established a musical forum ‘Shankarabharanam Kalamandira’ and has organized a year-long birth centenary anniversary of his guru Smt Vallabham Kalyanasundaram in 2012. He has also presented many musical stories on the life of Mysore Vasudeva Acharya, Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, and others with earnest contributions from his disciples.
