My Compelling Story
Sangeeta Shankar is a professional instrumentalist based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. She started learning at the tender age of four under the unmatched tutorship of her mother and Guru, Padmabhushan Dr Smt N Rajam. She began performing on television when she was eight years old, and her career has been forging ahead ever since. She had the privilege of accompanying her mother at the age of 13 and gave a full-fledged debut solo performance when she was as young as 16. Her performance was much enjoyed, and it wasn't long before she made a mark in the Indian classical music industry. Sangeeta had also organised a festival of young musicians in Varanasi called 'Abhinav', during 1984–85. She performs, not only in different states of India, but also in numerous countries around the globe. Sangeeta Shankar, being a talented musician, possesses a creative mind, decided to return to the society what it had given her over the years. On these lines, she conceptualised and created a TV serial of 26 episodes, named 'Swar Sadhana' in 2000. This series was made for creating an awareness of Indian classical music among the masses. Its highlights were the engaging story format and the participation of various prominent celebrities like Javed Akhtar, Madhuri Dixit, Birju Maharaj, Zakir Hussain, Jagjit Singh, Amol Palekar, Naushad, Pankaj Udhas, Kanak Rele, Yukta Mookhey, Suresh Wadkar, Sadhana Sargam, N Rajam, Shankar Mahadevan, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Annu Kapoor, and many others. She has written numerous articles on music and has been a successful speaker at countless seminars. She is involved in many projects in the fields of business, culture, education, music, and art. As in every other field, Dr Sangeeta Shankar excelled in her academics, with gold medals in Bachelors and Masters, and also a doctorate in music from The Banaras Hindu University. Presently, she is the founder and Director of a music company, Legendary Legacy Promotions Pvt. Ltd., which consists of a cache of excellent classical music and also other exclusive products. Currently, she is also educating future filmmakers, imparting voice culture, and music training at Whistling Woods International Film Institute. Dr Sangeeta Shankar's concept is a cultural, musical and harmonious society. She is working on an educational project called 'Milaap', which aims to teach children about values and culture and inculcate an atmosphere of happiness, love and peace amongst humanity.
